RT THORNE WINS EMERGING DIRECTOR & OUTSTANDING INDEPENDENT FILM FOR 40 ACRES AT BLACK REEL AWARDS
DGC Ontario Member R.T. Thorne took home both Outstanding Emerging Director and Outstanding Independent Film at the 26th Black Reel Awards for 40 Acres. The film also received five NAACP Image Award nominations.
Nuisance Bear, documenting the story of a polar bear navigating an increasingly human-shaped landscape, won the U.S. Documentary Grand Jury Prize at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival. Congratulations to our DGC Ontario Sound Editors David Rose and Elma Bello!

This year’s DGC Ontario titles include Headliner Ready or Not 2: Here I Come, Narrative Feature Competition selection Seahorse, Narrative Spotlight pick Forbidden Fruits, and Doc Spotlight title Black Zombie.
THE BALLAD OF JUDAS PRIEST PREMIERES AT BERLIN FILM FESTIVAL SPECIAL MIDNIGHT PROGRAM
Directed by Sam Dunn and Tom Morello, The Ballad of Judas Priest made its world premiere at the Berlinale, spotlighting the band’s 50-year legacy and rise to heavy-metal icon status. DGC Ontario Productions also made a splash with premieres at Sundance – In The Blink of An Eye in Feature Film Premieres (DGC Ontario Sound Post Only), Worried in the Episodic Fiction Pilot Showcase, and Agnes in the International Fiction Short Films category.
NETFLIX DROPS TRAILER FOR VLADIMIR, PREMIERS MARCH 5
Starring Rachel Weisz and filmed in Toronto, Vladimir hits Netflix on March 5. A subversive eight-episode miniseries series, Vladimir charts a middle-aged professor’s all-consuming obsession with her younger colleague.
UPCOMING HORROR COMEDY FORBIDDEN FRUITS TRAILER
Releasing theatrically on March 27, this horror-comedy is set around a mall-store “femme cult” that starts to splinter when a new hire threatens the group’s power dynamic.
