HEATED RIVALRY WINS ENTERTAINMENT PEABODY AWARD

Heated Rivalry has won a Peabody Award, adding another major honour to the series’ growing list of accolades! Congratulations to the DGC Ontario Members who helped bring this breakout show to audiences around the world.

HEATED RIVALRY TO RECEIVE TELEVISION ACADEMY HONOR

In addition to its Peabody Award win, Heated Rivalry was also named one of the recipients of the 19th Television Academy Honors, which recognizes programs that raise awareness around significant social issues. 

DGC ONTARIO MEMBERS & PRODUCTIONS RECEIVE 100+ CANADIAN SCREEN AWARD NOMINATIONS

Congratulations to all our Members and Productions nominated for a 2026 Canadian Screen Award! DGC Ontario Productions Heated Rivalry, North of North, and 40 Acres lead this year’s CSA nominations, with even more nods for Productions like Endless Cookie, Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent, Lilith Fair: Building A Mystery, Children Ruin Everything and more.

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR EDITING MEMBERS NOMINATED FOR 2026 CANADIAN CINEMA EDITORS AWARDS

Congratulations to all DGC Ontario Editing Members nominated for a 2026 Canadian Cinema Editors Award, as well as the DGC Ontario Assistant Editors who are the recipients of the 2026 Assistant Editor Recognition Award: Andrew Bukovac, Majda Drinnan, and Wesley Demkiw.

TELEFILM FUNDS 11 FEATURE FILMS IN THE ENGLISH MARKET, INCLUDING FIVE DGC ONTARIO MEMBER PROJECTS 

Telefilm Canada is investing more than $24 million to support 11 feature-length films in the English market. Congratulations to the following DGC Ontario Directors whose projects were selected in the first round: Director Robert Budreau for A Thread of Violence, Director Yung Chang for Eggplant, Director Deepa Mehta for Forgiveness, Director Clement Virgo for Half-Blood Blues and Director Zarrar Kahn for Suffering is Optional.

VARIETY REVIEWS THE TESTAMENTS AS A “STUNNING FOLLOW-UP” TO THE HANDMAID’S TALE

Variety praised The Testaments as a stunning follow-up to The Handmaid’s Tale, spotlighting the series’ expansion of the world first brought to life onscreen in the acclaimed original drama, also filmed in Ontario (check out our original interview with some of the notable voices behind The Handmaid’s Tale). 

TORONTO SHORTLISTED FOR GLOBAL PRODUCTION AWARDS: BEST CITY AND BEST FILM COMMISSION

Toronto has been shortlisted for Best City and Best Film Commission at the Global Production Awards. DGC Ontario Production Frankenstein was also shortlisted for the Sustainable Production Award (Film). The awards will take place at the Cannes Film Festival on May 18 at a ceremony at the Mademoiselle Gray Barrière.

ONTARIO GOVERNMENT PROPOSES STAR ACT TO IMPROVE TRANSPARENCY AND OVERSIGHT OF TALENT AGENCIES

The Ontario government has proposed the STAR Act, legislation intended to improve transparency and oversight of talent agencies. The proposed act marks a significant industry development for performers, representatives and production partners working across Ontario’s screen sector.

GAIL MAURICE TO RECEIVE AUGUST SCHELLENBERG AWARD OF EXCELLENCE AT IMAGINENATIVE FILM + MEDIA ARTS FESTIVAL

DGC Ontario Director Gail Maurice will receive the August Schellenberg Award of Excellence at the imagineNATIVE Film + Media Arts Festival. The honour celebrates Gail’s numerous contributions as a creative force in Indigenous screen storytelling.

CANADIAN SCREEN AWARDS PRESENTS: FOCAL POINT

DGC Member Jacob Tierney and DGC Ontario Member Zoe Hopkins will join Canadian Screen Awards Presents: Focal Point on May 31 for a conversation about shaping the visual language of the critically acclaimed shows Heated Rivalry and North of North. Alongside the cinematographer behind both series, the panel will explore how Directors and DOPs collaborate to balance technical craft with emotional storytelling.

STERLING POINT PREMIERES AUGUST 5 ON PRIME

Sterling Point, the new coming-of-age drama from My Old Ass writer-director Megan Park, premieres globally on Prime Video on August 5, with all eight episodes dropping at once. The series brings together many of the DGC Ontario Members who previously worked on Sundance hit My Old Ass

INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE SEASON 3 TRAILER RELEASED

AMC has released the official trailer for The Vampire Lestat, the new season of Interview with the Vampire, premiering June 7 on AMC and AMC+. Shot in Toronto, the highly anticipated new season continues to showcase Ontario’s production talent.
