FRANKENSTEIN RECEIVES ACADEMY AWARD NOMINATIONS
DGC Ontario Production Frankenstein has received 9 Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, Best Production Design, and Best Sound. DGC Ontario Members Tamara Deverell (Production Designer), Nathan Robitaille and Nelson Ferreira (Supervising Sound Editors) were recognized for their work on the film directed by Guillermo del Toro.
TAMARA DEVERELL WINS CRITICS’ CHOICE BEST PRODUCTION DESIGN AWARD FOR FRANKENSTEIN
Production Designer Tamara Deverell won the Critics’ Choice Award for Best Production Design for her work on Frankenstein at the 31st Annual Critics’ Choice Awards on January 4th. Congratulations Tamara!
ART DIRECTORS GUILD AWARDS NOMINATIONS
DGC Ontario Members received Art Directors Guild nominations for their work on Frankenstein, It: Welcome to Derry (episode “The Black Spot”), and Murderbot (episode “FreeCommerce”).
Nominated Members include Tamara Deverell, Brandt Gordon, Jon Chan, Henry Salonen, Sorin Popescu, Étienne Gravrand, Shirin Rashid, Jane Stoiacico, Michael Derrah, Vicki Pui, Chris Penna, Andy Tsang, John Moran, April Fox, Thomas Inwood, Erika Williams, Paul Austerberry, Colin Woods, Jillian McKenzie, Sue Chan, Barbara Agbaje, Jacques Fortier, and Sherouk Hasan.
The ADG Awards take place February 28 in Los Angeles.
MPSE GOLDEN REEL AWARDS NOMINATIONS
DGC Ontario Members were recognized with MPSE Golden Reel Award nominations for their sound work on Murderbot and Frankenstein.
For Murderbot (“All Systems Red”), nominees include Tyler Whitham, Danielle McBride, Craig MacLellan, and Ève Corrêa-Guedes.
For Frankenstein, nominated Members include Nelson Ferreira, Stephen Barden, Dustin Harris, Danielle McBride, Jill Purdy, Nathan Robitaille, Paul Germann, Scott Hitchon, Craig MacLellan, and Dashen Naidoo.
TORONTO NAMED #1 PLACE TO LIVE AND WORK AS A MOVIEMAKER IN 2026
Moviemaker Magazine has named Toronto number 1 for 2026 in their annual list of the top places to live and work as a moviemaker after landing in the number 2 spot in 2025. Toronto was selected for the top spot due to its large workforce of an estimated 35,000 screen-industry professionals, extensive studio space, established Post Production and rental infrastructure, and access to both federal and Ontario tax credits.
FRANKENSTEIN LANDS BAFTA NOMINATIONS
Frankenstein has earned 8 BAFTA Film Award nominations, including Best Production Design for Tamara Deverell and Best Sound for Nathan Robitaille and Nelson Ferreira. The 2026 BAFTA Film Awards will take place on February 22.
THE TESTAMENTS PREMIERES APRIL 8 ON HULU
The first season of the sequel to the critically-acclaimed The Handmaid’s Tale, based on Margaret Atwood’s novel of the same name, drops on Hulu on April 8th. The Testaments features the work of DGC Ontario Production Designer Martha Sparrow, Picture Editors Lara Johnston, Wendy Hallam Martin, and Ana Yavari, and Sound Editors Yuri Gorbachow, David Caporale, Claire Dobson, and Krystin Hunter.
PRODUCTION UNDERWAY FOR NORTH OF NORTH SEASON 2
Production is underway on Season 2 of North of North, continuing the series’ exploration of life and community in Nunavut, with DGC Ontario Members across key creative roles, including Directors Zoe Hopkins and Yael Staav, Production Designer Andrew Berry, and Picture Editors Hugh Elchuk, Sam Thomson, and Michael Pierro.
TIFF CANADA’S TOP TEN ANNOUNCED
Three films made with the help of DGC Ontario Members have been selected for TIFF Canada’s Top Ten: Tuner, Mile End Kicks, and Sk+te’kmujue’katik (At the Place of Ghosts). Screenings of all the 2026 Canada’s Top Ten films will run from February 5 – 8 at TIFF Lightbox.
GLAAD MEDIA AWARDS NOMINATIONS
DGC Ontario Productions were recognized with GLAAD Media Award nominations for Heated Rivalry, A Mother Apart, Overcompensating, Brilliant Minds, Devil in Disguise: John Wayne Gacy, Chief of War, Wayward, Jane, School Spirits, and XO, Kitty. The awards ceremony takes place on March 6 in Los Angeles.
NAACP IMAGE AWARDS NOMINATIONS
DGC Ontario Director RT Thorne received multiple NAACP Image Award nominations for 40 Acres, including Outstanding Breakthrough Creative (Motion Picture) and Outstanding Directing in a Motion Picture. The film is also nominated for Outstanding Independent Motion Picture and Outstanding International Motion Picture. The awards air on CBS and BET on February 28.
THE BALLAD OF JUDAS PRIEST ANNOUNCED FOR BERLIN FILM FESTIVAL
The Ballad of Judas Priest has been selected for the Berlinale Special Midnight program. Congratulations to all DGC Ontario Members involved! The Berlin International Film Festival runs from February 12 – 22.
SXSW ANNOUNCES FILM FESTIVAL LINEUP
DGC Ontario Members are well represented at SXSW 2026, with projects including Ready or Not 2: Here I Come, Seahorse, Forbidden Fruits, and Black Zombie. The festival runs March 12 – 18 in Austin, Texas.
FINAL SEASON OF THE BOYS PREMIERES APRIL 8 ON PRIME
The fifth and final season of The Boys hits Prime Video on April 8, marking the conclusion of the hit series featuring continued contributions from DGC Ontario Members.
DGC ONTARIO MEMBERS ON CANADIAN ACADEMY & CFC PANEL
DGC Ontario Members Jeff King and J. Miles Dale joined a Canadian Film Centre and Canadian Academy panel exploring the future of Canadian film and television on January 19, moderated by fellow DGC Ontario Member Vincenzo Natali.
DGC NAMES NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
DGC National has appointed Alistair Hepburn as its new National Executive Director, effective February 2. Hepburn joins the Guild following a decade at ACTRA Toronto and brings extensive experience in labour relations and advocacy.
DGC Ontario Members J. Miles Dale and Walter Gasparovic, alongside DGC BC Member Chad Belair, received a nomination for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Theatrical Feature Film for Frankenstein. The 78th DGA Awards take place on February 7 in Beverly Hills.
PRODUCERS GUILD OF AMERICA AWARDS NOMINATIONS
DGC Ontario Member J. Miles Dale has received a PGA nomination for the Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures for Frankenstein. The 2026 PGA Awards will be held on February 28 in Los Angeles.
CROSS SEASON 2 PREMIERES FEBRUARY 11 ON PRIME
Season 2 of Cross premieres February 11 on Prime Video, featuring the work of DGC Ontario Members across key creative positions, including Production Designer Martha Sparrow, Picture Editors Roslyn Kalloo and Joel Varickanickal, and Sound Editors Ève Corrêa-Guedes and Claudia Pinto.
