In the first-ever video edition of our Creative Spotlight series, we catch up with DGC Ontario Director Jasmin Mozaffari to discuss her work on the new Netflix-CBC Gem series Fakes, the importance of Actor-Director trust, and how she’s making sets safer for women in the film industry.

Dubbed by Variety as a “major talent,” Jasmin Mozaffari is a Toronto-based film & television Writer/Director. Her debut feature Firecrackers was named a 2019 New York Times Critic Pick, premiering at TIFF and winning two Canadian Screen Awards, including the award for Achievement in Direction. Jasmin has directed TV shows for Netflix, Hulu, CBC, Global, and PBS, including the pilot and several episodes for the Netflix-CBC Gem show, Fakes, and most recently on the upcoming series Robyn Hood, created by Director X.

DGC Ontario Director Michael McGowan’s adaptation of Miriam Toews’ beloved novel All My Puny Sorrows will premiere at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival on September 10th, 2021. Revolving around the women of the Von Riesen clan as they confront grief and trauma, we follow former Mennonite sisters Yoli (Alison Pill) and Elf (Sarah Gadon) as they attempt to navigate their great love for each other despite their own separate inner demons.
